Every morning when I wake up I do 10 minutes of self hypnosis, 5 minutes of stretching and I sit outside for 20 minutes. On a nice day I do my stretching and self hypnosis outside also. Why do I do this? When I don't, I feel groggy, fuzzy headed and a little bit grumpy, alot grumpy if you ask my husband. I'm not a natural morning person, I like to stay up late binge watching a Netflix series, scrolling through social media or chatting with my husband, this unfortunately makes mornings a little more difficult.

Self hypnosis, helps me to wake up, I often visualise going to my happy place, a beautiful beach in Santorini. As your brain is unable to tell the difference between real or imaginery, this floods my body with the same feel good hormones I would get if I was actually there and allows me to start my day feeling focused and calm and it helps me to feel positive, happy and ready for whatever the day throws at me.

Stretching helps to get the blood flowing and ease any tightness or strain from lying in bed and I feel moving around is much easier after I have done so. I'm not the fittest person in the world and I'm certainly not up to full yoga however just some gentle stretching of my back and hips makes a big difference.

Sitting outside to eat my breakfast is the part I enjoy the most, listening to the birds chirping, watching the trees sway in the breeze and the butterflies flitting from flower to flower helps me to forget any stress, keeps me focused on the present.

The morning light is important to reset our body clock, the natural light sends a signal to your brain to stop producing melatonin (the hormone that helps you sleep) and helps you to wake up fully but also regulates your sleep in the evening.

After years of suffering anxiety, those three activities are crucial to helping me maintain a positive attitude and is a good way to proactively look after my mental health. If you don't already, I highly recommend giving it a go, you will be amazed at how much better you feel.

Happy August to you all, it is my favourite month of the year. It's a month full of family time, endless possibilities, hot weather and holidays. Slightly different for most of us this year however it is a great time to explore and try out new things, maybe we need to be a bit more creative however the opportunities are there.

This fortnight I am focusing on confidence and deep relaxation. I love Zoom group sessions as you get to lie in your own bed and as I mute everyone during the session you aren't disturbed by each others snores. Best of all you don't need to drive home and can just relax for as long as you want after the session.
